The dream is dead for Project AM2R

By Keith MitchellSeptember 2, 2016

The fan-made Metroid II title, AM2R, has had it’s fair share of misfortune ever since it was released. While it was definitely superior to Nintendo’s last two Metroid titles, it was still an unlicensed title and Nintendo wasn’t hanging any of that.  Previously the only thing that was affected was the download links that were sharing the title.

However, things have taken a turn for the worse as Nintendo has finally handed the Project AM2R a takedown request via DMCA. Previously this had not happened and the team had planned on continuing work on the title. Now that has all changed as they have agreed to stop all work and have thanked the fans for their support.

Nintendo of America, Inc. has filed a takedown request under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). I received the request on my personal email, so I’m complying with their requests.

There will be no more AM2R updates, and no more releases under any platform.

Thank you for the support during all these years.

Definitely, a sad end for the title, especially since they managed to pull off what the fans of Metroid had been asking for all these years. Nintendo should be hiring these guys and getting this gem ported over to their systems.

I just want to thank the team behind AM2R for the fantastic title they produced, despite what has happened so far. You guys need to get your own IP and take it to crowdfunding. With AM2R, you’ve already shown what you’re capable of so I doubt you’d have any issues getting support.
