Marvel’s Secret Wars Coverage- Seeing Doubles

By Walter MackFebruary 24, 2015

The recent Spider-Verse saga saw our Main Universe (Earth-616) Spidey team up with fellow universe-mates(?) like Scarlet Spider II (Kaine Parker) and Silk (Cindy Moon) to take on a multi-versal danger in the form of the Inheritors, hell bent on killing every Spider totem in existence. Readers saw familiar Spiders like the now time displaced Earth-928’s Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O’Hara) and Earth 1610’s Ultimate Spider-Man II (Miles Morales). Old but not forgotten, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, and a cast of newly introduced Spiders like Spider-Gwen (Gwen Stacy) of Earth-65 and Earth-833’s Spider-UK (Billy Braddock) were also included. Even Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s versions of the Webhead were mentioned. The event saw handfuls of Spiders dying before the conflict’s end.

With the Secret Wars and resulting Battleworld, duplicates will be seen once more as Universes collide in a fight for existence. Two new titles have been announced with Battle World: Ghost Racers and Battleworld: Thors.

Battleworld

Ghost Racers will reunite fans with Robbie Reyes, the most recent incarnation of the Ghost Rider. He will be joined by other Ghost Riders and while it hasn’t been announced which ones, writer Felipe Smith declared, “pretty much anybody’s favorite Ghost Rider will show up in Ghost Racers!”. It’s not clear whether or not this includes Nick Cage’s take on the character. Written by Felipe Smith, with art by Juan Gedeon.

Thors is going to be all about crime solving. With Jason Aaron as writer and Chris Sprouse on art, various wielders of Mjolnir like the new female Thor, Earth-1610’s Ultimate Thor, Beta Ray Bill, and others can be seen on the issue 1 preview. No further information has been given.

Previously announced tie-ins to Secret Wars:

  • The Infinity Gauntlet
  • Old Man Logan
  • Ultimate End
  • Inhumans: Attilan Rising
  • Master of Kung Fu
  • Secret War 2099

Walter is a California native. He is currently in his last year of college pursuing a B.A. in English, but is often mistaken for a freshman...or a middle school tourist on occassion. His earliest gaming experience was Pokemon Red version on the Gameboy color, which he played actively. He would dabble with the Nintendo 64 and Playstation 2 for a bit before transitioning to many years of F2P MMOs. He then moved on to League of Legends, with whom he as an on and off again relationship. He currently spends most of his game time on his Playstation 4. He's also a bit of a Marvel nut.
