New Japanese Poll Highlights Kids Love of Minecraft and Splatoon

It makes sense when you think about it.

Minecraft Animated Series Announced for Netflix, Splatoon

Kids today are the future, which is why it’s important tot not only teach them properly, but let them have fun in whatever ways they enjoy. That way, they might find inspiration for what they might want to do in life. Plus, it’s nice to have fun, especially with things like video games. Japan is where gaming has boomed for decades. Even when the “Crash of ’83” happened, Japan wasn’t that affected, and helped breathe life back into the industry. So, it’s always a good idea to ask kids what games they like playing the most. It’s Minecraft and Splatoon, apparently.

This reveal comes via a poll from GameTrainer, who interviewed dozens of kids across 1st-6th grades, and asked them simply what they were playing the most at that time. With over 28% of the vote, Minecraft won, followed by Splatoon at 16%.

What’s interesting about that is two-fold. First, Mojang’s game has been around for a while, showing its “staying power” in many ways. Second, while we’ve known for a while that Nintendo’s ink-shooting title has been popular in Japan since the Wii U days, it doesn’t have a new entry out, which means they’re still playing the 3rd game.

Nintendo overwhelmingly dominated the list, with Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Pokémon, and Smash Bros all being top spots on the poll.

It’ll be curious to see how things change as the Nintendo Switch 2 gets more units in the country, and more big-name titles come out for it.
