It’s been ages, but the wait is almost over—Metroid Prime 4, officially titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, is finally set to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. With just a few months to go, Nintendo is pulling back the curtain on what the new hardware can do, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is clearly one of their showcase titles.
As part of the Nintendo Treehouse event running April 3–4, the company dropped an 18-minute gameplay video in glorious 4K, complete with commentary. It gives fans their best look yet at the long-awaited sequel, and let’s just say—it’s looking good.
Speaking of which, we did get some new information about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond that we didn’t know before. According to the video, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature two visual modes: Performance and Quality. The Performance mode runs at 1080p and 120 FPS, while the Quality mode offers 4K resolution at 60 FPS. It’s nice to see that even Nintendo Switch 2 games will offer selectable visual modes.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the long-anticipated return of the Metroid Prime series, bringing back the signature first-person action-adventure gameplay fans have been waiting for. Developed by Retro Studios, the game follows Samus Aran on a brand-new mission across mysterious alien worlds, blending exploration, puzzle-solving, and intense combat.
The development of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was developing a bumpy ride, as Bandai Namco was originally working on the title, as revealed during E3 2017. Then, in 2019, Nintendo revealed that the development had been restarted with Retro Studios as the developer. Which made since since the developer had worked on the prime Metroid Prime titles. I’m not sure why Bandai Namco was even in the picture.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches in 2025, but not alongside Nintendo Switch 2. Now the real question is: are you grabbing both? As for me… I’m still on the fence. But damn if I don’t want to play the latest Metroid title.
