Celebrate the Holidays with Ultraman Starting Tomorrow

By Josh PiedraDecember 17, 2024

You know he’s jolly and generous, but did you also know that Santa Claus is the father of iconic Japanese superhero Ultraman? To get into the holiday spirit, Tsuburaya Productions today released details for the ultimate holiday streaming experience for fans of Japan’s most iconic superhero, Ultraman. Beginning December 18, 2024 at 6p PT/9p ET, viewers can head to the Ultraman Official English YouTube Channel for the Ultraman Holiday Special Marathon, a collection of five rare holiday-themed, action-packed episodes spanning the series’ nearly 60-year legacy – not only featuring Ultraman but also Santa Claus, who turns out to be Father of Ultra! As an added holiday treat, the channel will present The Holiday Special Watch Party, that includes four additional episodes, special guest commentary, and new Ultraman product reveals on December 22. All episodes will be available for fans to enjoy through January 5, 2025.

Ultraman

In the Ultraman Universe, none other than Christmas’ most mythical figure Santa Claus is explained to actually be Father of Ultra, the peace-keeping guardian of the galaxy and the executive leader of the Inter Galactic Defense Force. The reveal was first showcased in the Ultraman Ace series’ holiday spotlight in 1972, where Ace fights the Kaiju Snowgiran, and as he struggles in the battle, Santa Claus (Father of Ultra) comes to assist. Together they also battle a Namahage, the legendary phantom, who is seeking to destroy Christmas. Other must-see episodes in this ultimate Ultraman holiday streaming treat, include the Ultraman Taro (1973) Christmas story “The Ultra Christmas Tree,” which features a kind alien and a child’s gift. And Santa made his most recent appearance as Father of Ultra in 2006’s Ultraman Mebius in the episode “Father’s Back.”

Complimenting the playlist, Ultraman fans are in for an extra holiday gift. On Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 5PM PT/8PM ET, the Ultraman Official English YouTube channel will host the Ultraman Holiday Special Watch Party featuring the staff of fan hub Ultraman Connection and special guests including Mike Dent from the SHOUT Factory TokuSHOUTsu streaming channel, fan favorite Ultraman artist Klenda Vee, Marvel’s Ultraman X Avengers writer Kyle Higgins, and Ultraman Card Game contributor artist Jamie Noguchi. The event will reveal holiday products on offer from Ultraman licensees, as well as brand new artwork for an upcoming release of the Ultraman Card Game.

The Ultraman Universe first debuted in 1966 with the launch of the television series Ultra Q. Over the last 58+ years, the Ultraman franchise has spawned a record number of television series, films, video games, and more. The release of this holiday collection comes at a time of major growth and increased brand awareness of the Ultraman franchise, sparked by the recent hit-maker Ultraman: Rising, which landed on Netflix in June and has become a fan-favorite and critical darling.

Ahead of the release of the holiday-themed episodes on the Ultraman Official English YouTube Channel, Tsuburaya has released the synopses for the nine episodes that will be part of the collection.

The episodes included in The Holiday Special Watch Party on December 22 at 5p PT/8p ET are:

Today is the Advent Festival for Father of Ultra, a day to commemorate the many miracles Father of Ultra performed on Earth. Can the answer have something to do with…Santa Claus?
