Tapas to Publish DRAC: Son of Dante Webcomic

By Josh PiedraJune 27, 2022

Tapas Media, has partnered with global independent content studio Endeavor Content to publish DRAC: Son of Dante, a new, multi-immersive webcomic experience. Created by an Oscar-Emmy-Eisner Award-winning dream team – celebrated Eisner Award-winning creator Saladin Ahmed, Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmaker, writer, and producer Travon Free, and Oscar-nominated director, writer, and producer Shaka King, the 15-episode free-to-read series is available now exclusively on Tapas’ mobile app and website with two episodes, and updated weekly on Fridays. For more information, please visit Tapas.io.

DRAC is a bold new take on vampires and immortals. Written and executive produced by acclaimed writer Saladin Ahmed (Batman Unburied, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, The Magnificent Ms. Marvel) and an all-star team of writers and artists led by Ray-Anthony Height, executive produced by Shaka King (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Travon Free (Two Distant Strangers), who co-created the series with Ahmed, and producer and POV Entertainment President Layne Eskridge (The Plot) and Endeavor Content, the series will feature a score by renowned Detroit producer Quelle Chris (Judas and the Black Messiah).

“I couldn’t be more excited to be collaborating with such a ridiculously talented group of creators,” remarked creator and EP Saladin Ahmed. “The team’s accolades speak for themselves. But it’s the living energy my fellow writers—along with artists, editors, producers, and musicians—have brought to DRAC: Son of Dante that’s going to make this a story people talk about for a long time to come.”

“We really think Saladin has tapped into something unique with this grounded rendition of a timeless classic,” said co-creator and EP Shaka King.

“It’s truly an honor to have embarked on such an in-depth creative journey, building a new world and new mythology with this world class team of people. I think people are really going to love what we’ve done with DRAC,” said co-creator and EP Travon Free.

“It’s been a true privilege building out the world of DRAC: Son of Dante alongside Layne and three of this generation’s most gifted storytellers—Saladin, Travon, and Shaka. We’ve created a world of characters and narratives that will give historically marginalized and overlooked communities a chance to see themselves represented in new and profound ways,” said Eric Pertilla, SVP, TV Development and Production, Endeavor Content. “This wouldn’t be possible without the partnership of Chris Robinson at Tapas and the writers, and the amazing artists led by Ray-Anthony Height who’ve been instrumental in bringing the comic to life.”

“I’m so proud to join the power of Tapas with Endeavor Content’s latest project to elevate diverse creators, narratives, and readers with such a unique and special story,” says Chris Robinson, Exclusive Partner Manager, Tapas Media. “This is just the beginning!”

DRAC: Son of Dante commences a new and contemporary mythology around the origins of the iconic goth villain that will resonate with multicultural and youth audiences alike. The narrative follows Dante, an eerie flute-playing immortal who finds himself drawn to the human condition against the natural order and better judgment of his species. Dante follows this obsession no matter how much trouble it gets him into — but a conflict for the ages erupts when his monstrous son Drac chooses a human bride.
