Could The Successor To The NES Classic and SNES Classic Edition Be On The Way?

By Todd BlackJuly 1, 2021
SNES Classic Edition, NES Classic Edition

Nintendo as a whole is honestly one of the most unique video game makers out there for a simple reason: they’re never afraid to experiment. From motion controls, to the eReader, to the Virtual Boy, to the Labo, and more, they’re always thinking of new ways to engage the audience. One of their most beloved ideas though was that of the NES Classic Edition and the SNES Classic Edition. This brought the games of yesterday back to us without needing all the cartridges.

But surprisingly, despite their incredible sales, Nintendo never made the obvious next one in the N64 Classic Edition. But a Q&A from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa might give hope to that. When asked about the classic systems he said:

“We always want our products to be played by people of all ages, from children to adults. In fact, as we have been in the video game business for many years, we believe that the number of people who can pick up Nintendo’s game machines is expanding significantly. Regarding the handling of classic content in series such as Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom and Super Nintendo, and online services, we are now trying to convey the appeal to parents. I would like to provide details about this at a later time.”

It’s not much, but it’s hope! And hope springs eternal Nintendo fans!
