The Witcher Season 2 Will Arrive on Netflix Late This Year

By Andrew AgressApril 22, 2021
The Witcher

After the success of Netflix’s debut season of The Witcher, based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, viewers have wondered when the second season would arrive on the streaming service. Netflix previously stated it would be sometime this year, but they’ve now narrowed it to a three month window. The Witcher season two will arrive during quarter 4 of this year. So sometime in October, November, or December, we’ll see Geralt return to fight monsters, human or otherwise.

Several of Netflix’s shows have seen delays due to COVID-19. Along with The Witcher, Cobra Kai and You will also see new seasons released in Q4 of this year after production delays. We previously noted that both The Witcher and Cobra Kai had resumed production back in February of this year. We speculated that The Witcher would return in Q3 of this year, but can now confirm it will be Q4. We were close though!

After multiple delays, The Witcher season 2 wrapped production this month, Deadline reports. The main cast returns, including Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Freya Allen as Ciri. The season will feature 8 episodes. Earlier this month, Netflix released a video showcasing the completion of filming:

Aside from getting to see all the returning cast members and the new locales, we also get an important bit of plot info from showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. She mentions that season 2 will delve into The Blood of Elves, the third book in the series, and beyond. This makes sense, as the first season focused on Geralt looking for Ciri, and the events of The Blood of Elves focus on Geralt taking Ciri under his wing. We’ll likely see the introduction of Vesemir, who trained Geralt in the ways of the witchers. In the book, the two of them train Ciri at Kaer Morhen, the witchers’ keep.

Beyond that, it’s hard to say exactly what the show will keep from the books and what it’ll skip over. But it’s good to know that soon we’ll have more of Netflix’s The Witcher. And after season two arrives, perhaps we’ll learn when the announced prequel series will debut.
