Control Ultimate Edition Owners Will See Upgraded Next-Gen Versions, not original version owners

Owners who originally supported the game being left out

While it seems like every company is handling game upgrades for the next-generation of consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, not everyone is looking out for you. Just recently it was confirmed by 505 Games, the publisher of Remedy’s Control, that they’ll only be extending a free upgrade path to those who are owners of the Ultimate Edition of Control.

Will Control Ultimate Edition give me access to Control on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5?
We will offer a free next-gen digital upgrade for those who buy Control Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For more information on eligibility, stay tuned to our website and community channels.

This new version of a game that has been available for some time will bundle all the expansions and updates, for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. If you happen to pick up this version of the game, only then will 505 Games provide an upgrade path for you. But what about those who already purchased the base game and all the expansions? Well, you’re either going to shell out some more money for the Ultimate Edition, or just pay for the upgraded version when it gets released.

If you ask me, this is a crappy move on the 505 Games part. Especially if you’ve already supported the game and own Control, as well as the paid DLC that was released. Companies pulling this stunt and being selective on who can get upgraded can set a dangerous example and one that I hope other companies don’t adapt. Sure, this move is great for those who didn’t originally pick up the game, but that’s it.

Needless to say, I’m not a fan of this practice and I feel its a slap in the face of those who’ve supported the game from the bringing. I’m sure this may not be the most positive option, but that’s just how I feel about the matter.

Will you be picking up the Ultimate Edition of Control? Let us know in the comments below.
