Wide Variety Of Kirby Titles Coming In the Future?

By Todd BlackApril 19, 2020
Kirby: Star Allies

There are many franchises who get a lot of praise for the big numbers that they put out. Mario, Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart are ones that really come to mind. But people forget that the Kirby series not only sells well, but it’s one of the most populous of the Nintendo franchises in terms of games released. This including having a hit game on the Switch with Star Allies.

But, since then, Kirby has been quiet on the main console, yet that might just change. In the latest issue of Famitsu, the team at HAL Laboratory (who are the makers of Kirby and his games) stated that the future might be not just full of games from the franchise, but feature some that are “non-action”.

Lead action programmer Katsuyoshi Sumitomo, general director Shinya Kumazaki, and design director Riki Fuhrmann participated in the discussion and had a lot to say.

Here are their thoughts on the future of the franchise:

Sumitomo: I really want the next thing we create to be called the pinnacle of Kirby games. I’m positive the Kirby series can become even more fun!

Fuhrmann: For me, personally, I’d really like to make a non-action Kirby spin-off game. …We’re going to have a wide variety of Kirby coming out in the future.

Kumamoto: Each entry in the series has its merits, but I want to make something that exceeds previous games.

At present, there are no Kirby titles scheduled for 2020, but Nintendo has been very tight-lipped about what’s coming out this year so that could change very easily.
