It only took nearly five years to announce Log Horizon season 3

By Keith MitchellJanuary 22, 2020

Database, database, just living in a database

Back in 2014, I stumbled onto an anime called Log Horizon, which is considered to be an Isekai. After watching it for a while, I was hooked on the show as it featured some likable and adorable characters, lots of humor, a worthwhile plot and that opening theme (Database, database…….). I watched up until the second season ended in early 2015. I was still craving for more and eagerly awaited for the next season, as the finale ended up a cliffhanger. Except there was one problem, there was no announcement of another season!

Fast-forward to January 21st, 2020, where thanks to some act of intervention, a third season has been announced. Yes, nearly five years later! Titled Log Horizon: Round Table Collapse, this new season will see the return of the cast from the previous season. It will be aired on the Japanese broadcasting network, NHK, as of October 2020.

Studio DEEN is returning as the anime’s production company, as will Shinji Ishihira (director), Toshizo Nemoto (series composition), Shouji Hata (sound direction), and Yasuharu Takanashi (music).

Here’s a synopsis of the third season:

One day, tens of thousands of players – Adventurers – were trapped in the world of the popular online game Elder Tale! People are confused in a different world where monsters and magic exist realistically, and the city of adventurers, Akihabara, descended into chaos.

A young man, Shiroe, who’s not great with people, was one of those adventurers and decided to form a guild “Log Horizon” with his party, Akasuki, and Nyanta. Furthermore, he calls on the unity of adventurers to use his own wisdom as a weapon, launching the self-governing body “Round Table Conference”, and restoring peace and stability to the city.

Centered around the Round Table Alliance, interaction with the original residents of the game world, The Earthlings, has begun with the adventurers, aristocrats, merchants, general citizens all working together to achieve diplomacy.

However, the adventurers only have one year from a “catastrophe” that has been blown in from a different country. Akihabara, which has enjoyed a fleeting prosperity, has to deal with a new species of monster “Tenwazawai” invading the city and the nobility of the east and west bickering between each other.

The flame of discontent continues to smolder between the guilds, with a struggle for power, disparity, and speculation occurring between adventurers.

Finally, a critical crisis will come to the roundtable, the symbol of unity with the adventurers…

That said, that summary doesn’t explain all of the events that happened towards the end of the second season. And I won’t go into detail, instead, I suggest you give the series a watch. As for me, I’m going to rewatch it all over again. You can watch it now on Crunchyroll and VRV.

Let’s just hope this is the final season, as we don’t want to want another 4+ years for season four.
