Final Fantasy VII Remake demo spotted on PlayStation Network

By Keith MitchellDecember 25, 2019
Final Fantasy VII Remake release date -01

It seems that a demo of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake was found on the PlayStation Network. This news was announced by Gamstat, a PlayStation Network scraping service and the same site that noticed the Resident Evil 3 Remake cover art on PSN.

Since this news broke, I’ve been trying to see if there’s any actual proof that we’ll see this demo released. At least anytime soon. So far that hasn’t been successful. There’s no mention on any of Square Enix’s press sites, no presser from the company, nor any word from the PR firm they work with. Even the Twitter page has been quiet. So there’s no confirmed existence of this demo from the company.

That’s not to say there’s not a reason for the demo being datamined from the PlayStation Network. While it’s safe to say this won’t be the Christmas present that most people are assuming it will be. Because it was, I’d be playing it right now instead of working on this.

I’m thinking we’ll still see this demo, but likely only for those who either pre-purchase the digital version of the game. Or some sort of “New Year’s Surprise” on the part of PlayStation. Interesting enough, since the news about the demo started circulating, the image that was once visible on PSN has been removed.

Either way, maybe not knowing the game is listed may have been a better fate. Now that everyone knows it’s there, but not a single person outside of Square Enix and PlayStation knows when it’s actually being released.

Final Fantasy VII Remake releases on March 3rd, 2020, for the PlayStation 4. Eventually, we’ll see the game released on another platform, but not for some time.
