Capcom is finally pulling the plug on Monster Hunter Frontier Z

Monster Hunter Frontier Z, one of Capcom’s first online Monster Hunter games is going offline later this year.

Recently announced by Capcom, Monster Hunter Frontier Z will have its servers unplugged as of December 18th, 2019. One of Capcom’s more ambitious titles, it is still currently available on the PS3, PS4, PS Vita and PC. Once it goes offline, it will have been one the longest going online games since its 2007 launch (Monster Hunter Frontier Online).

Until the game is taken offline, Capcom has promised to run things as normal. Special in-game events will keep occurring until the eventual end. PC and PS4 players can still jump into Monster Hunter World if they haven’t already done so. While PS3 and PS Vita players are out of luck.

Given the success of Monster Hunter World and that the PS3, not PS Vita isn’t supported anymore. It was only a matter of time before Capcom took an ax to the game. It’s also not the first Monster Hunter game that has been taken offline. Early this year, Tencent announced that their developed and licensed Monster Hunter title, Monster Hunter Online was also being canceled. That game will be taken offline as of December 31st, 2019. Looks like Capcom wants Monster Hunter World to be the online games in the series going forth.

Speaking on Monster Hunter World, there’s a demo of the upcoming expansion, Iceborne, that will be playable this week. PSN subscribers will be able to play from June 21st – June 24th, 2019. Followed up by a second wave that will be held from June 28th to July 1st, 2019. You won’t even need to own the base game, since the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne demo will not require it.
