‘Avengers: Endgame’ Surpasses The $2 Billion Mark And Sails Past ‘Titanic’

Marvel Studios’ ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’

If you were under the impression that the early awaited ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ was just going to be another superhero movie. Well, you’d be completely wrong. Not only has the flick captivated millions of fans of the MCU, but it’s also gone on to gross over $2 billion worldwide, in under 2 weeks. Not too shabby, is it?

** Check out our Avengers: Endgame review here. **

The superhero flick has also sailed past ‘Titanic’, which was the second grossing movie of all time at $2 billion. Now, the film has one more movie in its sights, James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’. Currently sitting in at 2.78 billion, Avatar is the world’s highest grossing film. Previously breaking all records, it took 47 days for the movie to hit that mark. Though with the fans going crazy over Avengers: Endgame, Avatar could be in trouble. I’m guilty of this as well, as I’ve seen Endgame three times so far.

Let’s look at the numbers to see the race to the $2 billion mark.

  • Titanic: 5,233 days (Dec 19, 1997)
  • Force Awakens: 54 days (Dec 18, 2015)
  • Avengers: Infinity War: 48 days (Apr 27, 2018)
  • Avatar: 47 days (Dec 18, 2009)
  • Avengers: Endgame: 11 days (April 26, 2019)

As you can see, Endgame has been tearing it up since its release. Every movie above it took weeks, months and Avatar’s case, years to get to $2 billion.  It took Endgame 11 days to get there. Even surpassing the first part of the MCU blockbuster with ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

However, it’s quite possible that Avengers: Endgame could run out of steam sooner than expected. There’s really only so many times you can watch the movie without leaving unsatisfied. Not only does the film wrap up nearly everything in a neat bow. But it features no post-credit scene, signaling that there’s nothing left to come. We’re finished with the Avengers until phase 4. Or worse, ever, as we don’t know where Disney is going next. For all we know, this could be the last Avengers film that we’ll ever see. Then again, I did see it 3 times, so who am I to judge.

Not to mention that Avengers: Endgame really didn’t have any real competition in theaters. That all changes this May 2019, as there is a slew of movies that are releasing this month. Just take a look at what’s coming this month alone.

  • Detective Pikachu
  • Tolkien
  • John Wick: Chapter 3
  • Aladdin
  • Brightburn
  • Booksmart
  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters
  • Rocketman

Several of those films are must-see flicks, especially ‘John Wick 3’, and ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’. Followed up by June which sees the release of ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’, ‘Men in Black: International’ and ‘Toy Story 4’. Needless to say, Avengers: Endgame is about to get some stiff competition in the near future and that could be problematic.

Can Endgame surpass Avatar before its time in the sun is over? That’s a tough call, but being the MCU fanboy that I am. I’m going to go on a limb and say that Endgame is going to grab that spot for sure.
