Netflix’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ Gets Renewed for Season Two

By Sara Roncero-MenendezApril 2, 2019

This week might be dominated by Avengers: Endgame but there is some more good news – Umbrella Academy is getting a second season!

Hello.

Season 2.

Goodbye. pic.twitter.com/0P5VRQlP1j

— Umbrella Academy (@UmbrellaAcad) April 2, 2019

The announcement has some minor spoilers for the ending, but the members of the Umbrella Academy join together to go back in time in order to prevent the end of the world with Number 5’s help. However, time travel is wonky and turns them back to their childhood selves, even Ben who is dead. Will they be able to fix their mistakes and save the world?

Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min will all reprise their roles, so we can assume that they won’t remain children forever. Steve Blackman will return as showrunner, escaping from the problems of other product losing a showrunner in the second season like American Gods.

Given that season one covered both stories from the comics, it’ll be fascinating to see where they go with this and if the The Bureau will still be hunting down Number 5.

However, not all news out of Netflix is good. The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell will not be getting a second season, which is particularly sad for me, as I love the show’s mix of crafts and creepy. Rumors are the One Day at a Time is in talks with CBS All Access to move to the show over to that platform, if Netflix lets it go.

No word as to when Umbrella Academy Season 2 is set to come out, but production is set to start this summer, so a 2020 date wouldn’t be out of the question.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
