Cary Fukunaga Announced as ‘James Bond 25’ Director

By Charlie ShawSeptember 20, 2018

The upcoming 25th entry in the James Bond franchise has found a new director, and his name is Fukunaga. Cary Fukunaga.

Eon Productions, the producers of the James Bond films, recently announced that Cary Fukunaga will helm directing duties for the upcoming installment in the iconic spy thriller franchise. Fukunaga is known for directing films such as Beasts of No Nation, Sin Nombre, and Jane Eyre. He is also known for directing and serving as executive producer for the first season of the HBO series True Detective.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli tweeted about their approval of Fukunaga as director for the untitled James Bond film:

“We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”

Danny Boyle, who directed films such as Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, and 28 Days Later, was initially planned to helm directing duties for the upcoming Bond film, but had left the project in August due to creative differences with Eon Productions.

Daniel Craig, who has played the role of James Bond since 2006’s Casino Royale, will return as the iconic British secret service agent. It’s been speculated that the upcoming picture may be Craig’s last outing as the famous character, since, after the last entry, Spectre, he didn’t seem too delighted about the idea of returning for a sequel.

As of now, there is no official title announcement for ‘James Bond 25’, but the film is set for a Feb. 14, 2020 release date.
