‘Halloween’ Reboot Takes Series Back to its Roots with New Trailer

Halloween Jamie Lee Curtis

Want to hear something scary? It’s been 40 years since the release of John Carpenter’s Halloween. While many sequels have come out since then, none have topped the original. So in the current era of reboots, it only makes sense for the Halloween franchise to see one as well. The newest film in the franchise will come out in October, of course. Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Laurie Strode in the original, returns to the role.

Set 40 years after the original, the new film is a direct continuation of that story. Meaning, every other film in the franchise has not happened in this timeline. Check out the trailer to see how this film sets that up.

Yep, Michael Myers has been in prison for 40 years. All that killing he did following the first film? Didn’t happen. This shouldn’t disappoint many since the series eventually lost track of the plot and went a bit off the rails. In the third film, Michael Myers didn’t even appear. By the eighth film, audiences became sick of him. So the approach looks like the smartest way to continue the franchise. While Jamie Lee Curtis has resurfaced in the series over the years (that eight one, sadly), this direct continuation of her story sounds intriguing. Rather than running from him, she’s actively training to hunt him down and kill him. Not a bad idea.

David Gordon Green direct the new Halloween reboot. He also wrote the script with none other than Danny McBride, comedian, and star of such films as Pineapple Express and This is the End. Is that who most people would expect? Probably not, but it sure sounds interesting. For the horror purists out there who are skeptical, have no fear. John Carpenter is also involved as the story adviser. He’ll also compose the film’s score.

Halloween will haunt theaters on October 19.
