Demon’s Souls Servers Will Be Shut Down February 2018

By Keith MitchellNovember 27, 2017

Well, folks, it’s been a damned good run. But it seems that all good things must come to the end. As such, Atlus has announced that the servers for Demon’s Souls will be shut down as of February 28th, 2017.

We wish a fond farewell to the Demon's Souls servers. Our staff reflects on the good (and frustrating) times in our latest blog post. https://t.co/0w1ZUTbkAQ

Now while the game will still be playable, it just won’t be the same without the online features. This includes the messages left by other players, including the ones that suck. Or the Old Monk fight, where players are summoned to your world for you to fight. That also means no more online co-op or PVP battles, and the end of World Tendency. Honestly, I’m really surprised this hadn’t happened sooner.

Demon’s Souls released on the PlayStation 3, back in 2009. Those servers are getting powered off after 9 years. Which is longer than some games that were released in the past few years. I wonder if this means that there’s zero hope for a remaster of Demon’s Souls. Especially now that this is happening.

If it I hadn’t checked out this game, so many years ago, I wouldn’t be the gamer I am today. It’s because of this game that I fell in love with the Action RPG genre. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, The Surge and countless others. I play them all now, thanks to this game.

That said, if you own a copy of Demon’s Souls, be sure to check out the game before the servers are pulled.  I know that I’ll be doing so!
