EA Lowers Battlefront 2’s Hero Unlock Prices By 75%

Well, that was super unexpected. All the grief and frustration surrounding the hero unlock prices for EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II definitely made a stink. But I never expected EA to revert the prices, but that’s exactly what they’ve done.

In a recent announcement, EA has stated that they’ll be lowering the hero unlock rates by 75%. The Executive Producer at Dice, John Wasilczyk, had this to say about the recent change of heart:

Making games great comes from regular tuning. As one example, today we’re making a substantial change based on what we’ve seen during the Play First trial. There’s been a lot of discussion around the amount of in-game credits (and time) it takes to unlock some of our heroes, especially Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Unlocking a hero is a great accomplishment in the game, something we want players to have fun earning. We used data from the beta to help set those levels, but it’s clear that more changes were needed.

So, we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits. Based on what we’ve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.

We’ve also been listening to how much you’re loving features in the game (Starfighter Assault, 40 player MP battles, Darth Maul lightsaber throws, etc.) as well as what you haven’t liked. We know some of our most passionate fans, including those in our subreddit, have voiced their opinions, and we hear you. We’re making the changes to the credit levels for unlocking heroes and we’re going to keep making changes to improve the game experience over time.

He also extended an invitation to everyone to attend a Reddit AMA (Ask me anything) that will be taking place this Wednesday, November 15th, 2017. If you were one of those who expressed your disinterest in the original pricing, I implore you to attend the AMA. I know I’ll be checking it out.

So what will the recent change in pricing do for the game? For starters, it will drastically change the amount of time it will take to unlock the heroes. To the tune to about 9-10 hours for the heroes on the higher end. While the ones on the lower end will take about 3 hours. Make no mistake, it’s still quite a grind, but it will take less than with the previous amounts.

However, it seems that not everyone is biting.  Judging from various comments following this update, it seems that fans of the game still aren’t convinced. Has this decision changed your mind from your previous stance?
