For Honor Will Be Getting Dedicated Servers

By Keith MitchellJuly 27, 2017

It’s about time, Ubisoft!

Ah, Ubisoft’s  For Honor, a game that gives me both pleasure and frustration at the same time. On one hand, I love the combat, the multiple classes, and the gameplay. Yet, on the flip side, the currency issues are maddening, and the fact that the game is peer to peer is just really dumb foresight. For you see, I’ve played many matches and while I more than likely lost more than I won, there’s just something about having a host disconnect and then having to wait for a new host to be picked that kills the fun.

we decided to do an analysis of the whole online infrastructure we have and compare it to other existing ones. And in the end, based on all the data we gathered … we decided to do the move and to migrate to a dedicated server technology, for many, many different reasons.

Thankfully, Ubisoft has seen the light and have announced that For Honor will be getting dedicated servers. Yes, dedicated servers, the one thing that everyone who played the game ever since the beta, pleaded with Ubisoft to implement. I guess the final straw for the company was the mass exodus of players from the title.

In a recent For Honor Roadmap, Ubisoft laid out their upcoming Season 3 and 4 plans, which detailed numerous changes. New heroes, maps, level caps, and more. What stood out the most (at least for me) was the section “Migration to Dedicated Servers.”

Now, we don’t know exactly when we’ll see the dedicated servers implemented into the game. But it is nice to see that they’re coming, even though this was the single most requested feature since day one.

Yet, I wonder if it’s a tad bit too late for the game. Sure, dedicated servers would definitely help with stability, but many players that have been frustrated with Ubisoft’s direction with the game have already left. I’m not even sure if this could bring them back, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
