The Nintendo Switch 2 Sold 1.5 Million Units In Japan During First Month

Japan is determined to break records with this console.

Success can be determined in many different ways, but the success of the Nintendo Switch 2 cannot be denied. It’s true that total numbers for the console or its launch title haven’t been revealed yet, but that’s not stopping places like Famitsu from revealing how well the system is doing in Japan! We’ve talked before about how the Switch 2 is dominating Japan, and it’s not even close, and the newest numbers back that up while also highlighting even more records being broken. In this case, as noted by Yomiuri, the system sold at least 1.5 million units in Japan during its first month.

If you’re wondering what we mean by “at least,” that’s because Yomiuri and Famitsu were only able to get verification from retail chain stores in the country and not from Nintendo itself. That’s important, as the company sold a bunch of Nintendo Switch 2 units via its own stores and Nintendo Online service. Thus, while likely not a LOT higher, it’s fair to think the number is much greater. Then, when you add in the US, UK, and other nations that had big sales on launch day and beyond, you have to wonder just how much the console has sold.

As for the records being broken, that 1.5 million in the first month is the highest sales for a new system since Famitsu started keeping track of such things, and just as important, is about three times what the OG Switch did in its first month. When you add that to the success of Mario Kart World in the country, of which we know that it’s sold well over a million units there in its first month, then you can see why it’s emphatically a success.

Plus, with more games and new bundles arriving soon, the sales will continue to grow.
