In this Path of Exile 2 boss guide, we’ll explain how to take on the Executioner boss. This character is significant, as this is the same character that you’ll see on the character select screen, and who had plans on Executing you before you manage to escape. So, it’s time for some payback.
Path of Exile 2 Executioner Boss Fight Strategy
This battle is straightforward but packed with challenges. At the start, the Executioner will slowly approach you, attempting to land devastating hits with his axe. A single hit deals massive damage, so keep your distance if you’re a ranged character or adopt a hit-and-run approach as a melee fighter.
The fight escalates quickly as the Executioner summons multiple Decrepit Mercenaries to distract and damage you. These minions will attack both at close range and from a distance, so prioritize dispatching them while keeping an eye on the Executioner.
Key Mechanics to Watch For:

- Wind-Up Slam (“Crush Asunder”)
- Telegraphed by the Executioner’s axe glowing red and his shout of “Crush Asunder.”
- Dodge immediately, as it deals massive AoE flame damage and can one-shot you. Stay clear of the front to avoid being caught.
- Guillotine Attack
- Signaled by the Executioner shouting phrases like “I’ll finish what I started” or “The guillotine drops.”
- The ground will shake where the blade is about to land—move out of the area quickly to avoid instant death.
- Jumping Attack
- The Executioner Will occasionally perform a jumping attack that can close the distance between you and him. Best way to get out of this is to dodge under him.
- Wind-Up Slam (“Crush Asunder”)
Tips for Success:
- Use frost against the Executioner , which can slow him down significantly. Use frost-based attacks or weapons to gain an edge.
- Be prepared for a prolonged battle, as the Executioner has a high health pool and can endure significant punishment.
Post-Fight Cleanup:
After defeating the Executioner, don’t relax yet. Any remaining Decrepit Mercenaries will still pose a threat. You can either eliminate them for the extra experience or head to the stage to free the captured character and proceed.
