Shogakukan Announces Plans for Light Novel Mobile App

By Josh PiedraAugust 1, 2024

It was reported by MangaAlerts on Twitter that Shogakukan has announced that they are planning to release a mobile app for reading Japanese light novels with English translations.

Shogakukan

While that may sound like a good thing to reading enthusiasts, they announced that translation will be done through Mantra using A.I. The reason for using A.I. was cited as a cost-reduction measure by claiming it would reduce translation costs by half along with a more rapid release of content.

While no specific date was given, they said the app will be available in the United States and Canada by the end of the year.
