Guns of Fury Merges Classic Run & Gun Action with Metroidvania Exploration

By Keith MitchellJuly 29, 2024

Growing up in the 1980s and 1990s, it’s no wonder that whenever I hear the term “Run & Gun,” a smile inevitably forms on my face. So, you can imagine my excitement upon discovering an upcoming game called Guns of Fury, which combines the “Run & Gun” genre with some Metroidvania elements. This game, set for release on PC and Nintendo Switch, is currently in development by Gelato Games.

Guns of Fury pays homage to several genres, including Run & Gun, Metroidvania, and Platformers. I suspect that games such as Metal Slug, Mercenary Kings, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night have inspired its development.

Here’s what the Steam page reveals about the game:

In the near future, the world faces an energy crisis. When all hope seems lost, world-renowned scientist Dr. Klaus announces the discovery of the “Tetra Cell,” a revolutionary energy source with the potential to benefit mankind. However, just 24 hours later, Dr. Klaus mysteriously disappears, and his lab is destroyed in an explosion. Industrialist A. Easton, President of Easton Industries, is suspected of kidnapping Dr. Klaus and plans to use the Tetra Cell to create a new type of super weapon.

You play as Vincent Fury, a special operative tasked with infiltrating Easton Industries’ secret research facility, rescuing Dr. Klaus, and recovering the missing Tetra Cell before it’s too late!

Key Features of Guns of Fury:

  • Explore a vast interconnected world and uncover new areas using newly acquired skills and equipment.
  • Experience exhilarating Run & Gun action.
  • Enjoy beautiful hand-crafted 16-bit pixel art.
  • Discover hundreds of unique items, including pistols, weapons, knives, and accessories.
  • Battle 10+ bosses and a variety of enemy types.
  • Acquire new abilities in an authentic Metroidvania experience.
  • Take control of different mechs, each with its own array of attacks and abilities.
  • Find secrets in breakable walls and collect powerful new equipment.
  • Engage with destructible environments.
  • Experience alternate endings.
  • Enjoy an incredible soundtrack by Dominic Ninmark.

If this sounds intriguing, be sure to add Guns of Fury to your wishlist on Steam. While there’s no official release date yet, Gelato Games is targeting a 2024 launch. I can’t wait to dive into Guns of Fury!
