Rian Johnson Announces the Third ‘Knives Out’ Film

Mystery Trilogy

Rian Johnson has pulled the curtain back on the next Knives Out mystery. The director took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the third Knives Out film. It has the title of Wake Up Dead Man.

The short teaser also shared that Daniel Craig will return as detective Benoit Blanc. This is expected, as Blanc is the only character who appears in both Knives Out and its sequel, Glass Onion, as the detective brought in to solve each standalone mystery. That said, each film has a star-studded lineup. And Wake Up Dead Man is no exception.

According to Deadline, Wake Up Dead Man will feature Josh O’Connor, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Glen Close, Andrew Scott, and Cailee Spaeny. Most recently, Mila Kunis has joined the cast as well.

Here at The Outerhaven, we enjoyed both Knives Out and its sequel, Glass Onion. In our review of Knives Out, we called it “a fun and rewarding watch.” For Glass Onion, we called it “just as hilarious and clever as the first film.”

The announcement of a third Knives Out film proved a question of when, not if. After the success of the first film, Netflix inked a record $450 million deal for two sequels. So we’ll see if they decide to snag a fourth one as well. Until then, we have Wake Up Dead Man to look forward to as a possible trilogy-closer.

Wake Up Dead Man will arrive on Netflix in 2025.
