Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Trailer Teases More Story Than You Thought

ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree – Story Trailer

We’re just under a month until the release of Elden Ring’s first and, reportedly, only DLC with Shadow of the Erdtree. Thus, Bandai Namco and Fromsoftware are in hype train mode and have released a new trailer. Except, this time around, this trailer gives us a look into the story of the game, and I’m sure that every Soulslike lore master will break this down, so I won’t have to.

Check out the trailer for yourself below.

Shadow of the Erdtree will pick up where the ending of Elden Tree left off, enticing players with more content and a new adventure into the Land of Shadow, a new location in Elden Ring. According to reports from Hidetaka Miyazaki, this new location will be roughly the size of Limegrave, which is still pretty big. Just not as massive as the world of Lands Between.

And just who is Messmer the Impaler, and what is his role in all of this? Is he a demigod, and if so, why is he in the Land of Shadows? Is that Marika, and if so, why is she offering up a Rune Arc? What’s going on here?  I’m sure my favorite Soulslike Lore person, VaatiVidya, will break it all down and have me questioning more.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21, 2024, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). As an avid Soulslike fan, you know I’ll be playing it for an undetermined amount of time. Don’t be surprised if I end up disappearing after this DLC drops.
