8 Best Video Games Coming Out In April 2024

By Keith MitchellApril 1, 2024
April 2024 - Games to Play

There’s plenty to play this month, including an anticipated action-adventure game, a couple of formerly exclusive Xbox titles heading to PlayStation, and a new Soulslike from Moon Studios. April 2024 is loaded with games to play; trust me with that.

Here are the April 2024 video games you should be checking out.

Freedom Planet 2

Freedom Planet 2 is a follow-up to the popular indie game Freedom Planet by GalaxyTrail. It’s a fast-paced platformer heavily inspired by classic Sega Genesis games like Sonic the Hedgehog. The sequel is similar to the first game but with several improvements that make for a much more enjoyable experience. While the game has been available for some time on the PC (Steam), it’s finally making its way to the consoles so the rest of the gaming community can get a chance to play it.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch
Release Date: April 4, 2024

Grounded

Once an Xbox-exclusive title, Grounded is a captivating survival adventure developed by Obsidian Entertainment, where players find themselves shrunk to the size of insects and must navigate the perilous landscape of a backyard teeming with oversized flora and fauna. Think of it being the ‘Honey, I shrunk the Kids’ of video games. Set in a visually stunning and intricately detailed world, players must scavenge for resources, construct shelters, and craft tools and weapons to fend off menacing insects and uncover the mysteries lurking beneath the surface. Now, the game is heading to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, along with the Fully Yoked DLC, which adds new features such as new characters, modes, and a New Game + mode.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch
Release Date: April 16, 2024

No Rest For The Wicked (PC Early Access)

I’m a massive Soulslike fan, in case you didn’t already know, and I’ve been following No Rest for the Wicked ever since the game was revealed during the 2023 The Game Awards. Developed by Moon Studios, the same team that gave us both Ori games, this is a departure from what the team normally works, yet, looking at everything surrounding the game, you wouldn’t think so. Set in a dystopian future where chaos reigns supreme, players assume the role of a hardened protagonist tasked with navigating treacherous environments, confronting ruthless enemies, and unraveling a complex narrative woven with moral ambiguity, wrapped in challenging and action-packed gameplay.

Yep, I’m looking forward to this. I even took off work for two days to play this; don’t tell my boss.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam)
Release Date: April 16, 2024

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a JRPG from legendary game developers Yoshitaka Murayama’s (Suikoden I & II) and Junko Kawano (Suikoden I & IV) which takes the turn-based strategy game experience to the next level. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes features a finely crafted six-character battle system, meticulously created 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds, a riveting story with over 100 playable characters, and engaging gameplay designed to bring players a modern take on classic JRPGs.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will continue the events that began the 2022 release of Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising by assembling a party from more than 100 potential heroes in a six-character battle system. Engage in turn-based, strategic battles that provide a modern take on classic JRPGs, melding beautiful 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC (Steam)
Release Date: April 16, 2024

Tales of Kenzera: Zau

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is an expansive open-world action-adventure game that immerses players in the vibrant and fantastical realm of Kenzera. Developed by a passionate indie studio, Surgent Studios, and being published by EA Originals, players will embark on a thrilling journey of exploration, discovery, and epic battles against formidable foes. With its dynamic combat system, deep character progression, and intricate lore, Tales of Kenzera: Zau offers a rich and immersive gameplay experience that encourages players to forge their path through the world’s sprawling landscapes and diverse cultures. From ancient ruins to bustling cities, players will uncover secrets, make allies, and confront powerful adversaries as they unravel the mysteries of Zau and shape its destiny.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA Origins)
Release Date: April 23, 2024

Stellar Blade

Ah, Stellar Blade. For one reason or another, no game on this list is more anticipated than this title. Developed by Shift Up and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Stellar Blade is an action-adventure game set in a not-too-distant future Earth, ruined beyond recognition during a global invasion that expelled humankind from its home planet. This sounds a bit much like Nier: Automata. Tasked with saving the planet, players take the role of Eve, who ends up being the sole survivor left of her task force as they attempt to take back Earth and, in doing so, begins her quest.

Soulslike? Well, it sort of plays like one, but I’ll give it a try.

Platforms: PlayStation 5
Release Date: April 23, 2024

TopSpin 2K25

This is a surprise, and it came out of nowhere. The TopSkin series started as one of the best Tennis video game series and remained as such until it disappeared. Sure, Tennis games haven’t always been the best, but when TopSpin was released, no other Tennis game could dethrone it. We don’t know much about TopSpin 2K25, but if it can capture the magic and has the same gameplay as the series’ previous games, we’re all in for a treat. TopSpin 2K25 supports crossplay across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam)
Release Date: April 26, 2024

Sea of Thieves

One of Rare’s best games of all time, and one that has been going strong on the Xbox Series XIS for the past six years, is yet another game that’s moving over to the PlayStation 5. It’s also the number one preordered game on the PlayStation 5, and for good reason. Sea of Thieves is set in a shared world where players assume the role of pirates exploring and navigating the open seas. The game features cooperative and competitive multiplayer gameplay, allowing players to crew up with friends or strangers to embark on quests, hunt for treasure, engage in ship-to-ship combat, and encounter other players. Now that the game is heading to PlayStation, crossplay between the Xbox and PlayStation is also a thing.

Things are about to get interesting once this game gets released.

Platforms: PlayStation 5
Release Date: April 30, 2024

Which of these titles are you looking forward to playing? A few? All of them? We hope your bank accounts are ready.
