Nintendo Switch Comes Out On Top As Best-Selling US Console of 2022

Many have been enjoying the success of the Nintendo Switch since it came out in 2017. Since then, there’s been one thread that has connected each year: the Switch sells a LOT of units. It’s not even six years old yet and it’s one of the best-selling systems of all time, and that doesn’t look to be slowing down. To that end, the NPD data for both December 2022, and the year that was 2022 have come in, and the Switch came out on top both times for units sold.

You will notice that the PS5 did beat the Nintendo Switch in terms of its dollar sales, but there’s a gap between how much each version is sold for. The key metric here is units sold, and on that, the Switch came out on top.

A big reason for that dominance in the United States was because of the software line. The NPD data for the year 2022 showed that Nintendo did really well in terms of overall game sales and had two titles break the top ten. Not surprisingly, they were Pokemon Scarlet & Violet at No.6 and Pokemon Legends Arceus at No.8. However, it should be noted that their place on the chart didn’t include digital sales, so it’s likely they’re higher when those are factored in.

All in all, the Switch had a great 2022, and many are hoping 2023 will be just as good.
