I Hope That Forspoken PC Requirements Aren’t Indicative of the Games’ Performance

Square Enix Forspoken Keyart 1280x720

Twitter’s guru of finding all things gaming, Wario64, recently dug up the PC requirements for Square Enix’s upcoming Isekai game, Forspoken. For those looking to play Forspoken on PC, since that’s the only other way to play it, as the title is a PS5-exclusive, you may want to sit down.

These PC requirements are bizarre, and there’s no other way to put them. But I’ll list them, and let you decide for yourself.

Minimum ( 720p 30fps)

OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 / Intel i7-3770
GPU: AMD RX 5500 XT / Nvidia GTX 1060
Memory: 16GB RAM
HDD/SDD Space:  HDD 150GB or More

Recommended (1440p 30fp)

OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel i7-8700K
GPU: AMD RX 6700 XT/ Nvidia RTX 3070
Memory: 24GB RAM
Resolution: 1440p 30fp
HDD/SDD Space: SDD 150GB or More

Ultra (2160p 30fp)

OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5800X / Intel i7-12700
GPU: AMD RX 6800 XT/ Nvidia RTX 4080
Memory: 32GB RAM
HDD/SDD Space: NVMe SDD 150GB or More

On the positive side, Forspoken will be one of the first games that support DirectStorage. Though I’d imagine this will only benefit the recommended and ultra enabled-PCs. It also supports Fidelity FX Super Resolution (FSR), so AMD cards will benefit from AMD’s supersampling technology.

It’s not like the game already had one strike against it, as the standard copy of the PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store is priced at $69.99. Yep, another 70 dollar price PC game. But now you have these outrageous PC requirements that will cause anyone to pause, even before dropping that 70 dollars on the game.

There’s no mention of the game playing at 60 frames per second, which will likely need higher requirements than what’s already listed. The recommended settings are usually what other games list as higher-end requirements, while the ultra PC requirements ask for some hefty hardware, including an RTX 4080. Despite this, I’m still confused that Nvidia’s recent generation of GPU would be paired up with AMD’s last generation. The 6800 XT can’t keep up with the RTX 4080 at 4K gaming. Then again, these are just for 30 frames per second. If you factor that in, it starts to make sense.

While it’s our job to report on video games (among other things), we also get to speculate as well, and I’m definitely going to speculate. These PC requirements scream that Forspoken will be an unoptimized mess when it launches – But I’m hoping I’m entirely wrong.

Oh, and add that to the list of PC games that require 32GB. It’s getting weird out here. This is not how PC gaming gets better—C’mon, Square Enix.
