Everything We Know About Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

By Keith MitchellJanuary 20, 2023
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - Story Trailer

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja are preparing a brand new action RPG, called Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, that will take players to the era of the Three Kingdoms, and tossing them into a dark fantasy adventure that may be familiar to those who’ve played. In fact, you could call this a spiritual successor to Nioh.

It’s one of my anticipated games of 2023; as such, we’ve provided as much information as possible about the upcoming dark fantasy Soulslike title. Did I mention I can’t wait to get my hands on the game?

When does Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty get released?

According to Koei Tecmo, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is being released on March 3rd, 2023. We haven’t heard of any delays as of yet.

What platforms is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty releasing on?

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be available on March 3, 2023, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In addition, the game will be playable on Xbox Game Pass, so those who are subscribed to the Xbox gaming service will be to check the game out without paying full price. We aren’t sure if this also means it will be available on the Xbox’s PC Game Pass. Fingers crossed that it will be.

For those who are looking to dive into the PC version, make sure that your PC is up to the challenge by checking out the PC specs.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – Minimum PC specs (720p/30fps)

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
  • Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3400G
  • 8GB RAM
  • GeForce GTX 1650 4GB or Radeon RX 570 4GB
  • 60GB HDD storage space
  • 16-bit stereo sound card with 48KHz WAVE support

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – Recommended PC specs (1080p/ 60fps)

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
  • Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
  • 16GB RAM
  • GeForce RTX 2060 6GB or Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB
  • 60GB HDD storage space
  • 16-bit stereo sound card with 48KHz WAVE support

What can you expect with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty?

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has a lot going for it. Stealthy combat that allows you to dismiss your foes without making a mess, or you can play aggressively, going ahead against anyone and everyone. You’ll able to take advantage of several magic means of offense and defense, including wielding mystical creatures that can give you an advantage. You’ll need every bit that you can get, as the dark fantasy world isn’t an easy one, as I found out while playing the Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty demo that was available for a limited time.

If this sounded like Nioh to you, that’s because everything I’ve played thus far has reminded me of the game. Get ready for more Soulslike action, as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will attempt to push you to your limits.

Will Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty have co-op?

Yes, it does. It was mentioned that the game would have online multiplayer by Koei Tecmo. I also played the Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty limited demo, which allowed up to three players to play the game. Again, similar to how Nioh 2 allowed up to three players as well.

What’s the game about?

Based on the period of the Three Kingdoms, an era that Koei Tecmo often revisits, players will dive into a conflict surrounding an elixir that everyone wants to fulfill their desires. However, unlike the first Nioh, players will play the role of a nameless soldier, who must do everything in their power to stop the conflict.
Check out this story trailer to find out more about the in-game story.

Will I be able to create my own character?

Yes! Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has a detailed character creation tool. With it, players will be able to create either a male or female character, change their skin tone, hairstyle, eyes, face shape, teeth, with many more options available.

Again, we hate to bring up Nioh 2, but the tool is similar to the one found in that game but enhanced.

Will Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty have a New Game mode?

It’s currently too early to know. However, seeing how Nioh 1 and Nioh 2 had a New Game Plus mode, we’re assuming that this one will also. Fingers crossed.

Is the game available for pre-order

It sure is, and anyone who pre-orders the Standard Edition ($59.99) of the game before March 16, 2023, will receive the following:

  • Zhuque armor set
  • Baihu armor set

Pre-order the Xbox Standard Edition here, and here for the PlayStation Standard Edition. You can also pre-order the Standard Edition for PC (Steam) here.

The Digital Deluxe Edition costs a bit more ($84.99), but it also provides you with some extra goodies.

  • Digital Art Book
  • Digital Mini Soundtrack
  • Season Pass

Pre-order the Xbox Digital Deluxe Edition here, and here for the PlayStation Digital Deluxe Edition. You can also pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition for PC (Steam) here.

While all aforementioned bonuses are in-game only, the Steelbook Launch edition will include a physical copy of the game, bonus DLC that includes the crown of Zhurong, the crown of Gonggong, and a STEEBOOK. I know there are quite a few of you out there (myself included) who love a good STEELBOOK.
