‘Beetlejuice 2’ in Early Development, with Brad Pitt’s Company Producing

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 1, 2022

It’s showtime! Well, almost. Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B has taken on Beetlejuice 2, according to Deadline. This long dead project may soon be getting new life, though there is neither a director nor writer attached to the project yet, so no script is in place.

But there could be more. Empire is reporting that Michael Keaton, who played the titular bio-exorcist that terrorizes the living, and Winona Ryder, who played the young Lydia Deetz, would be returning for the project. Does this mean the sequel could have Lydia confronting the demon she almost married and then banished back to the Netherworld? Would it be like the animated series and they would go on adventures? If the news is true, then the nostalgia factor would be very high for this sequel. No word yet either if Tim Burton would be on board for the project.

One has to wonder if the success of Beetlejuice the musical (yes, it’s real, and yes, it’s actually got quite the following) has anything to do with the renewed interest in the franchise.

Beetlejuice wouldn’t be the only horror staple getting a sequel. Disney is getting ready to put out Hocus Pocus 2 out on Disney+ and Halloween has gotten two reboot/sequels in the last few years.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
