What Exactly is Capcom Planning to Show in Six Days?

Earlier on February 14, 2022, a countdown had appeared on Capcom’s website. At this time, the countdown is sitting at six days and five hours. This means by Sunday, February 20th, 2022, Capcom will have something to announce. The question is, what is Capcom going to reveal?

And see, that’s the thing. Capcom has its hands in so many things right now, it’s hard to guess as to what this might be. But seeing how guessing is sort of our thing, let’s go down the rabbit hole and see if we can figure this out.

Something, Resident Evil-related?

We already know that Capcom is in development for several Resident Evil projects. The long-awaited (well, for some) Resident Evil 4 Remake is one game that many are assuming will be revealed. Well, I shouldn’t say revealed as Capcom did mention several times that they are working on this. I wouldn’t doubt that Capcom would take the time to release some news about the game.

We’ve already heard that Capcom is looking to make drastic changes to Resident Evil 4 Remake. While this wasn’t official, the news indicates that Capcom wants to take the remake of the action-oriented game in a different direction. Right smack into the horror genre, where most of the Resident Evil games are. For some reason, RE4 had strayed from its roots, and it seems Capcom wants to fix that. I’m not sure if that will go over well with the RE4 diehards, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Resident Evil 4

That’s not the only Resident Evil-related item in the works, either. Back in October 2021, Capcom revealed that’s it was working on DLC for Resident Evil Village, but at the time didn’t have anything to share. Seeing how the game will be out for nearly a year as it was released in May 2021, we could very well hear or see something about it.

Capcom Resident Evil Village DLC development

Anything from either of these two Resident Evil projects would be interesting. More so with Resident Evil 4 Remake, as we’ve recently just received the fan-made Resident Evil 4 HD project. A mod that has given new life to Resident Evil 4, and wouldn’t it be something if Capcom decided to jump in on the hype train?

It’s more likely Street Fighter 6

More than likely, this announcement has something to do with Street Fighter 6. This makes the most sense, especially since the timer running out will coincide with the Street Fighter V Pro Tour 2022. The Street Fighter V Pro Tour runs from February 17 – 20, 2022, and seeing how the timer ends on the last day of the event; this will likely be a reveal for Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter V Pro Tour

It’s been known for quite some time that Capcom has been at work on Street Fighter VI. Apparently, the development had started long before Yoshinori Ono had parted ways with Capcom. As for Street Fighter V the game has overstayed its welcome. After five seasons, Street Fighter V: Arcade and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, it’s time to move on to the next battle. At the same time, Capcom had already teased that Street Fighter V’s last DLC character, Luke, was a “major part of the next Street Fighter project.” We’re still not quite sure what they meant about this.

Street Fighter VI, as well as several other mentioned games, were also part of a massive leak back in 2021. A leak that, so far, has been on the money. Games such as Monster Hunter Stories 2, Monster Hunter Rise for the PC, were on that leak and have already been released. Street Fighter 6 and the Resident Evil 4 Remake are also mentioned in the leak. So it’s a good chance we’ll see either game officially revealed this weekend.

Of course, Capcom could announce any number of things, so don’t take that off the menu quite yet. It’s been quite some time since Capcom mentioned anything about its next-generation title, Pragmata. We could hear about that game, or even possibly — Deep Down. A game that was announced for the PlayStation 4, but ended up vanishing into the ether.

Either way, one thing is for sure is when February 20th, 2022, gets here, we’ll be watching to see what exactly Capcom has up its sleeves.
