New GeForce Now tier to be powered by RTX 3080s

By Keith MitchellOctober 21, 2021
GeForce Now

If you’re a PC gamer or someone who pays attention to the PC gaming scene, you already know that it’s been a nearly impossible task to acquire just about any video card. It doesn’t matter if it’s an Nvidia or AMD GPU; they’re just hard to come by for many reasons. Thankfully, Nvidia has stepped in and has a solution that utilizes its GeForce Now service.

Today, Nvidia has announced a new tier that allows anyone to rent an RTX 3080 powered server for up to 8 hours a day. This new tier is priced at $100 for a 6-month subscription, quite a bit more than the other GeForce Now offering. These memberships will be limited, with founder and priority members getting first access.

This new tier will provide access to RTX 3080 performance, up to 1440p at 120 frames per second for both PC and Mac and 4K on Nvidia’s Shield TV devices. This new tier will be made available shortly.

Nvidia GeForce Now SuperPOD

This is made possible by new server clusters called  GeForce Now SuperPOD, consisting of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 cards and AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors. These SuperPODs have been placed in datacenters worldwide so that gamers can get optimal latency when taking part in the service.

Adding to that, Nvidia is working closely with a number of publishers to bring its games to the platform. Many will recall some confusion in the past where Nvidia allowed any game to be added to GeForce Now, which upset several publishers and caused them to pull their games from the service. Nvidia is making sure that a situation like that doesn’t happen again.

All of this is excellent news for anyone who wants to play PC games with all the bells and whistles but hasn’t been able to find any RTX 3000 series cards due to the current market, which isn’t getting any better. With this new service, everyone will have a chance to rent an RTX 3080 enabled server, with the visuals maxed (or close to it).

If this doesn’t show you that cloud gaming isn’t getting better, I don’t know what doesn’t. With services like GeForce Now, you can take something like a Google Chromebook or an underpowered laptop, pay for the service, and you’re right in the action. Now you’ll be able to play all the big upcoming games like Battlefield 2042, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Halo Infinite. This will be huge, and I can’t wait to see how the public reacts to getting access to an even more powerful GeForce Now tier.

I’ll be looking forward to checking out this new teir to see how it performs. Look for this new tier in the upcoming months.
