It was announced that the popular anime and manga database website, MyAnimeList, is receiving a hefty investment by multiple major Japanese publishers. Those publishers include Shueisha, Kodansha, and Shogakukan. The total amount that these companies are investing is said to be around 1,200 million yen or about $11.3 million.
The companies will create a third-party allotment which MAL hopes to use to accelerate the expansion of its online platform. Some of the plans include:
- Increased accessibility for new or returning users
- Better interconnection between users and businesses
- Better server handling and performance
- Information exchange promotion
- Multi-language support
- iOS and Android app improvements
- and more
As of now, there is no public timeline as to when all of these updates and/or new features and ventures will roll out.
