Hitman 3 will give your DualSense controller a work out

By Keith MitchellDecember 8, 2020
Hitman III

While it was already known that Hitman 3 was making its way to the next-gen of gaming consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, today’s update on the PS5 version has me excited. During a post on the Official PlayStation blog, Travis Barbour of IO Interactive dropped a few bombshells for the upcoming follow-up.

First up is how IO plans on implementing the DualSense controller, a device I can’t stop talking about, in Hitman 3. According to Barbour, the adaptive triggers will simulate firing recoil, and it will be unique for each weapon. Meaning each gun that you fire will (supposedly react differently.

All of the guns in the game will support adaptive triggers and you’ll feel an authentic sensation with each shot you fire. Automatic weapons also simulate recoil with every bullet and we’re implementing unique haptic feedback for each weapon that is tied to the distinct sound profile of each weapon. Essentially, we’re emulating what it feels like to fire a specific weapon in the same way that we’re replicating how each weapon sounds.

This right here is the kind of thing that will make me opt for the PS5 version of games over the Xbox Series X and, yes, even the PC. Sure, the PC had DualSense support, but it doesn’t support the DualSense’s adaptive triggers (yet).

In addition to this, Travis Barbour also mentioned that the PS5 version of Hitman would support 4K visuals, 60 frames per second, HDR support, and of course, faster loading times. IO Interactive will also support free upgrades to Hitman 3, from either the PlayStation 4’s disc or digital versions.

Lastly, PSVR support is also in full PSVR, that is. You’ll be able to play the entire game in VR, not just segements.

That’s not all! Hitman 3 will have full PS VR support. Yes, that means you can traverse the outside of the tallest building in the (Hitman) world in PS VR! If you own the previous games from the trilogy on PS4, you can also access locations from them within Hitman 3. That’s more than 20 Hitman locations from the World of Assassination trilogy to enjoy in PS VR.

You can either play Hitman 3 in PS VR natively on your PS4 or via backward compatibility on PS5. To make sure all PS VR owners can experience the game in VR, we’re including a free digital copy of the PS4 version of Hitman 3 with all PS5 copies, whether you choose to buy it via disc or digital.

It looks like IO Interactive is pulling out all the stops, and it seems like the PS5 version is the one to get. That is if you can get your hands on a PlayStation 5.

Hitman 3 arrives on January 20th, 2021, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Switch, and Stadia.
