Astral Chain Reaches 1 Million In Sales

By Todd BlackJanuary 30, 2020
Astral Chain 2

Over the course of the Nintendo Switch’s life Nintendo has been working hard to boost relationships with major 3rd party companies to get big titles to the Switch, and they’ve succeeded, including getting some big exclusives like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Octopath Traveler, the upcoming Bravely Default II, and they continued to further their relationship with Platinum games by getting Astral Chain.

Astral Chain focused on a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world where beings from another world called Legions were used by special government agents to fight other monsters and save humanity. In other words, it’s a perfectly Platinum title. We’d already heard from the game’s Director that the title had sold “above expectations”, but now, Nintendo has revealed via its quarterly results that the game has sold over one million units!

This is significant for a whole host of reasons, not the least of which is that this means the newest IP from Platinum Games is another big hit. What’s more, if this new IP has done well, then the highly anticipated Bayonetta 3 is likely to pull similar numbers, if not greater ones.

Just as important, it helps solidify the Nintendo/Platinum relationship and could lead to even more titles being brought to the Switch in the future.

Be sure to check out our review of Astral Chain here!
