Could Breath of The Wild 2 Come In 2020?

The Legend of Zelda Mobile Game - The Outerhaven Breath of the Wild 2

To say that Nintendo is on a bit of a roll here in 2019 is an understatement of the highest order. They’re not just doing well, they’re crushing it in both hardware and software sales. Their 2019 software lineup has been one of the best ever, and they’re mere days away from the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield. But now, fans are starting to wonder what will come in 2020, and a new rumor states that Breath of the Wild 2 could be one of the big titles.

To recap, Breath of the Wild 2 was shown off during a Nintendo Direct at E3 2019, and it shocked everyone that a direct sequel of the award-winning game was coming. But it is coming. However, according to industry insider Sabi, we’re potentially less than a year away from release…barring delays that is…

Due to the ambiguous nature of the post, he went on to clarify that according to his sources, Nintendo’s internal calender for 2020 has BOTW 2 in its plans. Though like he said, a delay could take that off the table.

Is this likely though? Many fans are saying no, and for a very simple reason, Breath of the Wild was a masterpiece of both gameplay and open-world vision. It perfected many things that the genre sometimes struggles with. Granted, a sequel would already have much of the world in place per se, and they would just have to add in a new threat, some new areas, and more to make a competent sequel, but Eiji Aonuma doesn’t do “competent”. He does “masterpiece”. So while it is feasible that Breath of the Wild 2 could release by the end of 2020, it’s more than likely that it’ll release in 2021, if not later.

If that is true though, that once again raises the question of Switch games coming in 2020. Because right now all we have announced is Animal Crossing New Horizons, Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE Encore #, and the Xenoblade Chronicles HD remake.
