Real-Life Amadeus A.I. is Being Developed

By Josh PiedraSeptember 17, 2019

Steins;Gate is an anime heavily embedded in science fiction, touching upon subjects that are mathematically possible in the real-world but technologically impossible. Subjects such as time travel and parallel world lines exist only in theory but not in practice, nor have they even been proven here in our slice of reality but artificial intelligence is a very real thing and a group of programmers are looking to take that next leap by replicating the Amadeus A.I. from Steins;Gate 0.

We already have A.I. systems that can progressively learn via a user’s interactions with it so what makes Amadeus so special? Two things set it apart:

The first is that the way it learns is based on the way the human brain learns. You can talk to this A.I. as if it were another person and it will respond to you as if it were alive. It will store those conversations in memory and is able to recall anything that has been said. This high-level human-like interaction is a step above the type of machine learning most A.I. systems use today.

The second is that the pre-programming information for this A.I. is based on the memories of an actual human being. This is where it gets tricky. Of course, when you have a pen and paper, you can craft a story and have your characters do whatever they want in a world that is not bound by limitations. Here in the real world, you’d have to develop a non-harmful method of recording the memories of the human brain and transcribe them into machine language that a computer could understand. That’s a lot easier said than done but this team of programmers is looking to make it happen.

If you’re up to the challenge of helping develop this system, there are three ways to become a tester. The first is to subscribe to the Adult Science Radio channel on Niconico. Be mindful that this is a paid service. The second way is to fill out an application on the project’s official website. Doing so will subject you to the lottery method of being chosen. You’d also have to hurry because lottery applications end on Wednesday, September 18 in Japan. The third way to become a tester is the be Japanese. This is a Japanese project so they are looking for native people as their testers.

If you meet the above criteria and are interested, here are the links to where you can sign up and be one of the lucky ones who gets to talk to Amadeus Kurisu!
