Offline Mode And Free Game Notifications Are Now Available For The Epic Games Store Launcher,

By Keith MitchellFebruary 14, 2019

Tim Sweeny, Co-Founder of Epic Games, did mention that the company would be rolling out various different functions to the Epic Game Store launcher. And as of this morning, a new feature was announced – Offline Mode.

Just like it sounds like, the offline mode will allow you to play your games from the Epic Games Store, without the need to be connected to the internet. Mind you, it likely won’t work for every game. Especially those that are coded to call home every few hours.

In addition to the offline mode, they’ve also added a free games notification. Which is also pretty handy, since the only way you knew about the free games previously was the first page of the Epic Games Store. That or having someone totally awesome (like us) telling you about them. Now, this feature has been added to the launcher. Knowing about free games is completely cool with me.

Heya folks,

We’ve added a new feature to the Epic Games store we wanted to make you aware of–as well as highlight a capability that has been around for a while (but you may not have noticed….). We’re talking about free game notification pop-ups and offline mode!

What’s Offline Mode?

Offline Mode allows you to continue using Epic Games store functionality even when you are not connected to the internet. Simply click “Skip Sign-In” if the launcher asks you to log-in while you’re offline.

Actually, it’s pretty ironic that they’re announcing this now, as I believe this feature was working as of yesterday. I noticed this when I was doing some testing for Metro Exodus (check out our review of the title here) and noticed there was an option to skip the login.

Now, if only the cloud saves and pre-loading options were also available. Especially the cloud saves since I really don’t trust my hard drives to retain my data. That and Epic Games won’t tell me where the game saves are hidden, so I can’t back up my data on my own.
