Behold, There is a ‘Stranger Things’-Themed Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set

By Sara Roncero-MenendezFebruary 16, 2019

Let’s be real here – Stranger Things has had a significant effect on our pop culture mindset. From what shows are popular, to reviving 1980s nostalgia, to even pushing certain media back into the mainstream. And what is more quintessential to 1980s nerds than the ever-popular tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons. So it only makes sense for Hasbro to sell a special Stranger Things themed starter pack for viewers intrigued by the game’s numerous mentions.

Here’s the official description of the kit:

The Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set contains everything players need to embark on a Stranger Things adventure including the essential rules of the roleplaying game. It’s a great way for new as well as seasoned Dungeon & Dragons players to experience the D&D adventure Stranger Things character Mike Wheeler has created for his friends. Pick your character — will you be Will the Wise or Dustin the Dwarf? Get your fireballs ready as you investigate the mysterious castle and battle the ferocious Demogorgon. Prepare for just about anything, because the game just got stranger. Includes Stranger Things Adventure book, Rulebook, 5 Stranger Things character sheets, 6 dice, Demogorgon figure, and Paintable Demogorgon figure. Ages 14 and up.

That’s right, you can battle the Demogorgon, or at least the version from the show. There are also pre-filled character sheets, which can help beginners and novices get into the game even faster. The set is designed to get the curious invested in the game, and it could well bring some new players, and revenue, to this veteran game franchise. Or, if you’re already a GM in your own right, own it just for the sake of coolness. No judgements either way.

The set is available for pre-order at various online game stores and retailers, and will be released sometime in May 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
