Square Enix Wants To Make More Titles Like Octopath Traveler For Nintendo Switch

Project Octopath Traveler Octopath Traveler Review Nintendo Switch

Since its launch, the Nintendo Switch has had a surprising amount of 3rd-party support. Companies like Capcom, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft and more have thrown titles at the console in various forms. But one of the biggest supports has to be Square Enix. For they’ve put I Am Setsuna, Lost Sphear on the system already, and soon, they’ll be launching Octopath Traveler.

This exclusive to the Nintendo Switch is going to be very special, and apparently, it could be the literal beginning of a new slew of original titles for the Switch. This comes from Tomoya Asano, who talked with Game Informer about Octopath Traveler and revealed some big things that Square Enix has done behind the scenes:

“Square Enix has decided that it wants to focus on original titles for the Switch,” he says. “If Octopath Traveler does well and this is something that appeals to fans, we want to focus on Switch. Please pick up the Switch if you want to play games like Octopath Traveler.”

It should also be noted that this past April, the dev team behind the game became their own division, which shows how much confidence Square Enix has in them.

But wait, there’s more, for apparently, Square Enix already has more titles in store for the Switch:

“There are several other titles that we’re currently working on for Switch,” he says. “If you could just wait a bit longer, we’ll work with Nintendo and announce them in the future.”

Sounds like big things are in the pipeline, we’ll just have to see where it leads.
