Fight Night Champion Slugs its Way onto Xbox One Backward Compatibility

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieMay 15, 2018

The sweet science known as Boxing hasn’t had a game to represent it since 2011 when Fight Night Champion made its way to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While EA has moved on and is now focusing on EA Sports UFC, fans of the sweetest of sciences haven’t had a chance to scratch that itch for pugilistic excellence. While today’s announcement isn’t the news boxing fans were hoping for, this should satiate even the hardiest of the squared circle enthusiasts.

Microsoft announced earlier today (Tuesday, May 15) that EA Sports Fight Night Champion will make its way to Xbox One via the Xbox Backwards Compatibility initiative. Fight Night Champion was the first entry into the 5-game Fight Night series to introduce a story element, Champion Mode, which took you through the rise, fall, and eventual rise of prospective Philly fighter, Andre Bishop.

If you have purchased Fight Night Champion digitally in the past, you can find your game in ‘My Games and Apps’ under the ‘Ready to Install’ section. If you own the disc-based game, you can simply insert your game disc, install and play. The game is also available for purchase on the Microsoft Store for $19.99, plus all applicable taxes.

Fight Night Champion offers features such as:

  • Full Spectrum Punch Control – Control your boxer’s punches with precision and accuracy like never before with a new synergy of gameplay controls. From overhand punches to strategic counter jabs and one-punch knockouts, overwhelm your opponents with your refined skill set.
  • Physics-Based Gameplay – Move around the ring and time your attacks with precision. Building off the best-in-class gameplay engine featured in Fight Night Round 4, you now have an even wider range of abilities when it comes to counterattacks, setting up combos, and attacking your opponent.
  • Legacy Mode – Create your alter ego and put him in the ring against past champions. Work your way up the ranks through training and scheduled bouts, and establish your name as the fighter to beat. Take your boxer online and see how you size up against the best in the world competing for local or worldwide belts in the all-new Fight Night Nation.
  • Authentic Content – Fight Night Champion showcases the truest graphical representation of the sport, lifestyle, and culture of boxing with authentic and dynamic blood, realistic body damage and deformation, and mature content throughout. Experience the violence and brutality that is true to the trade.
