In this day and age, it’s somewhat harder for RPGs to sell as much as other genres. We’re not living in the days of Super NES RPGs, so this news is that much sweeter to announce. Atlus sends word that Persona 5 has sold over 2 million copies, worldwide.

You did it Atlus! Persona 5 is a hit and is one of my favorite RPGs of this year. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this boat either.

This has been an incredible year for our company, one that represents our ambitions for Japanese games in the west,” said Naoto Hiraoka, president & CEO of Atlus U.S.A., Inc.. “We are in the middle of experiencing tremendous growth, both in the west and abroad, and the sales of Persona 5 represent a new level of expectation for fans of the genre. Once seen as niche, Persona 5 is one of the most important titles this year, proving interest in this category is expanding. We look forward to delivering more incredible games to our fans next year.

Not only that, but Persona 5 has also been nominated in four categories for the upcoming “The Game Awards 2017″. This includes ‘Game of the Year”, “Best Art Direction”, “Best Score/Music” and “Best Role Playing Game”. That’s an amazing feat to be included in one category, let along four of them. Here’s to hoping that Atlus and Persona 5 make it out with an award. Especially since they’re up against some equally impressive competition.

So, congrats to both Atlus and Persona 5 for kicking ass and taking names!
