Is Breath Of The Wild Mirroring The Original Legend Of Zelda?

By Todd BlackOctober 28, 2016
Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda is one of the greatest video game titles of all time. Breath Of The Wild is one of the most anticipated titles in the series run. So much so that its coming to both the Wii U and the Switch.

But a curious post on the Nintendo UK blog may have you wondering what you’re looking at. Titled, Hyrule: Then and Now, the blog post notes that there are several areas, and one person, that are a callback to the original Legend of Zelda.

For example, the old man in the original game who gave you a sword can be found here too. Though he won’t give you a weapon, he does help you on your journey.

Then, there’s Spectacle Rock, a mainstay in the Legend of Zelda series, the blog shows that there’s a similar formation in Breath Of The Wild too.

Then there’s a very familiar skull formation that’s a callback to the final dungeon of the original title, which not only has enemies in it, but can also be cleverly blown up in a way if you’re a good marksman.

What’s key here, is that Nintendo not only noted it, but said at the end…

“Rumour has it that there are lots more connections between The Legend of Zelda and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Why not make it your mission to find them all?”

How many more intentional references will be in the game? We’ll have to wait until March to find out.
