The Marvel Cinematic Universe Casts its Punisher

You probably know him best as Shane Walsh on season 1 and 2 of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Come 2016 on Netflix’s second season of Daredevil, actor Jon Bernthal will be portraying Frank Castle aka The Punisher. Contrasting sharply with the heroes around him in his ruthless approach to shutting down criminals and villains, Castle has managed to garner many fans throughout his years as a character.

As Marvel’s Netflix series share the same universe as their films, this leaves the opportunity for the fan favorite vigilante to appear in upcoming Marvel films.

Since his stint on The Walking Dead, Bernthal has appeared on many projects such as Martin Scorsese directed feature, The Wolf of Wall Street (alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill) and Fury (Brad Pitt, Logan Lerman, Shia LaBeauf, Michael Peña).

Fun Fact: Fellow The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) voiced The Punisher in the 2013 animated movie Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore.

Update: Bernthal takes to Twitter to thank fans.

WHATH? Shane, as FRANK? What, is he going to rub his head every time he kills someone? Goddammit, Thomas Jane was ready and raring to come back, what the fuck? Oh well, as long as DD is as good as season 1, I’m sure Bernthal could make a good Frank…not a great Frank but good enough not to steal spotlight from Matt Murdock
