Windows 10 to be Available as Free Upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 Users for First Year

Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s EVP of Operating System announced today at the Windows 10 event that Windows 10 will be available as a free upgrade for the first year after release for Windows 8.1, Phone 8.1, as well as Windows 7.


No release date has been set for Windows 10.

      Well that’s the thing. You’re basically forced to do an upgrade if you want your free copy of Windows 10 in the first year. Between what we’ve seen so far and what I’ve played with on the tech preview, this is shaping up to be the Windows XP of 2015… that’s a good thing.
