I gotta admit that while I was hoping that Deus Ex: Human Revolution (pronounced day-us x) was going to turn out to be a better sequel than Deus Ex 2 was, I was truly in for a surprise when I installed it on my PC. My GOD… This..Game..Is..Great! And I’m not just saying its just Great, but I’d go as far as saying that this game is on par with say, Half Life 2. Now I know some people might not agree with me, but hear me out. So far everything about the game has been perfect, well everything except the controls; for example why can’t I run when I zoom in? I shouldn’t have to cancel my zoom and then run, it’s a natural movement. It kind of reminds me of Resident Evil where you have to move and then shoot, you can’t do both at the same time. I”m also not a huge fan of the cover system, it seems that it was tacked on at the last second, maybe it’s just me but it feels cumbersome.
Graphical wise I loving the fact that it has native DirectX 11 support (Cough*Crysis2*Cough) and even though the world is more grey and brown than I would want it to be, it fits the cyberpunk adventure. It’s also very detailed, but don’t believe me. check it out for yourself. Go visit a shop or just roam around the map, there’s detail everywhere. I’m completely in love with the weapon models as they are some of the best I’ve seen in a while. Though I wonder about those female models, I mean some of them look like they’re pretty top heavy, I don’t think all females look like that, but I digress. The sounds from the weapons fire are satisfying and do the job, I don’t think I’ve found one gun that I haven’t enjoyed firing just yet. Between the main missions and side missions there is plenty for you to do, I think The producer for DEHR, David Anfossiex, stated that the game would have about 25-30 hours of game play for the casual player. That’s not including gamers that love finding every little easter egg (Like the Robo-Cop easter egg… check in the Police Station).
There was an issue regarding load times and I mean lonnnnggggggg load times, up towards 40-50 seconds on all systems (Xbox 360, PS3 and PC) however it seems that Square-Enix has released a patch that addresses that. I can say that before the patch I really loathed dying in DEHR. There were literally times I would load up, run upstairs to get a drink and the game would still be loading. Thankfully this has been corrected so it’s about 20 seconds per load. Keep in mind that loading doesn’t happen that much and only occurs when you are moving from one location to another, but once you are in a specific level, say like the police station there is no load whenever you move up or down floors. At least that’s how it is on the PC version.
Did I mention it also supports Steamworks, so all the PC gamers can work towards those wonderful achievements while Xbox gamers get their XBL achievements and the PS3 players can earn their trophies. Ir’s a win/win for everyone on that front.
So yes I’m really enjoying this and it more than makes up for Deus Ex 2: Invisible War, in my mind at least. I highly recommend Deus Ex: Human Revolution if you’re a fan of the FPS / Stealth / Cyberpunk genre or if you’re simply looking for a new title to keep you occupied longer than most titles have been recently.
