Granblue Fantasy: Relink has gone gold

The highly anticipated action RPG from Cygames, and one that we’ve been looking forward to, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, has gone gold.  The game’s director, Yasuyuki Kaji, revealed this news via Famitsu. For those not in the know, when a game goes gold, it means that, for all purposes, the game is completed. Outside of patches for bugs, the game is on its way to being pressed and sent to digital storefronts.

Thanks to you, we have finally completed “Granblue Fantasy Relink“, which we have been developing for a long time! We want as many users as possible to play the game. And then we are starting something new. I would like to enjoy the release of my first title and the start of a new title with all my might! – Yasuyuki Kaji

Given its ups and downs, it’s hard to believe that the game is almost here, such as changing developers’ hands. Initially announced in 2016, Grablue Fantasy: Relink was being developed by PlatinumGames, but then, in 2019, the contract between the two companies ended. This caused the game to be developed by Cygames’s internal team. Then, in 2022, when the game was initially supposed to be released, it suffered a delay, pushing it to 2023. Then another delay occurred, forcing Cygames to reveal that Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s new release date would be February 1, 2024, as revealed during Gamescom 2023.

Since then, we’ve been able to play Granblue Fantasy: Relink during PAX West 2023, which you can see here. During a Granblue Fantasy: Relink showcase, it was revealed that the game would be receiving a demo in January 2024; several previously unseen Granblue Fantasy: Relink bosses were shown, and we got a teaser for Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s theme song. For those who play the demo, your progress will be transferred to the full game, and you’ll also receive some rewards.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink, as mentioned, is an action RPG that can be played solo, or you and three others can play together throughout all of the quests via an online coop mode. The game will also feature a standard assist mode so that attacks and combos can be performed by pressing a single button (similar to Street Fighter 6’s modern control type), allowing anyone to jump in and not burden themselves with worrying about complicated attacks.

The Granblue Fantasy: Relink release date is February 1, 2023, for the PS4, PS5, and PC. It’s also interesting that this is a day before the release date of another anticipated RPG, Persona 3: Reload, and during the same month as Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
