Epic Games Would Love Nintendo Characters in Fortnite

There are certain video games that truly “transcend” the genre and go to places that no one expected when they first came out. When Fortnite first arrived, Epic Games couldn’t have known the massive explosion of players they’d get or the infinite number of crossovers and events they’d kick off. Yet, years and many in-game seasons later, the title remains one of the biggest things around, and it shows no signs of stopping. But eagle-eyed fans will note that one significant gaming brand hasn’t been put in their game yet: Nintendo.

That seems odd, given all the gaming icons that have come into Fortnite, not to mention how Epic Games would totally make a huge event out of the crossover. So why hasn’t one happened? During an interview with Axios, Epic Games’ Saxs Persson said:

“Nintendo has their strategy and we have our strategy, and we hope at some point (to use their characters because) our players would love it.”

He even noted that trying to get this collaboration to happen was like trying to make diamonds. As in, it’s been rough and has taken a while. Aesthetically, it’s understandable why The Big N hasn’t done this, as they don’t want their characters associated with guns and “dying” in this way. But that could change in the future! You never know…
