About Us

About who we are

You may have heard of us, right? We hope so! A few years ago, several friends and I decided to start a gaming podcast, our place on the internet, where we could talk about video games and geek culture stuff without persecution. When we first started, finding a site or persons who did what we wanted was hard. More so for our EIC, Keith Mitchell, who wanted to see geek culture done through the eyes of a BIPOC. Thus, The Outerhaven was born.

Little did we know that this passion would become the launching board for what we’ve become today. The Outerhaven Productions went from just a simple podcast to a website that has been providing coverage of not just video games but also comics, manga, anime, technology, and just about anything that you can squeeze under the geek culture umbrella, from current news, reviews, podcasts that cover Gaming, Manga, Anime, and TV/Films to attending and covering events such as IndieCade, New York Comic Con, PAX East, and more.

Thanks to those who have followed us, those who read our content, listen to our podcasts, and watch our video productions. We promise to keep doing what we are doing and strive to do even better.

Who are we?

Keith Mitchell – Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief: While Keith may seem average, he’s anything but. He’s quite the gamer, cutting his teeth on the Atari 2600 and Intellivision, and has been a constant in the gaming scene by either running his own dedicated game servers or a website dedicated to video game music, then eventually starting The Outerhaven as a gaming and technology journalist. He’s also one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet in this life or the next.

Favorite Games: Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, Ridge Racer Type 4

Josh Piedra – Managing Editor of Anime & Manga: Josh has been an anime fan for nearly twenty years. In addition, he is a light novel author with over 25 books published as well as the owner of Meteora Press, his personal publishing label. Anime and otaku culture isn’t Josh’s only area of expertise. He also has a Bachelor of Arts in Game Design and has created a handful of independent games along with a deep working knowledge of the gaming industry.

Sara Roncero-Menendez – TV/Film & Book Senior Editor: A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don’t count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room — once was more than enough.

Karl Smart – Video Games Senior Editor: The main “Australian arm” of The Outerhaven. Karl primarily spends time playing and reviewing video games while taking time to review the latest movie or gaming technology.

Todd Black – Video Games Senior Editor: A self-proclaimed Nintendo fanboy, born, bred, and mushroom-fed! He’s owned every Nintendo handheld and every console since the SNES. He loved games so much that he got a degree and dreams of writing video game stories.

Andrew Agress – Staff Contributor: Andrew comes from the majestic land of New Jersey (the part that doesn’t smell). A big fan of sketch comedy, he writes and performs it whenever possible. He gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.

William Kok – Staff Contributor: Philosophical, Gaming, Otaku, at your service! Born in Nintendo’s golden age, his blood runs on Mario and Nintendo. With his philosophical degree, he learns to see the big picture and other points of view and tries to make unbiased thinking and judgments: part-time Substance Abuse Case Manager, Full-time gamer, otaku, and student of life.

Scott Adams – Staff Contributor: He has been involved in the gaming community most of his life but put his toes in it once the PS2 got a hold of him. He loves RPGs and stories in games, books, movies, anime, and TV shows. He has a habit of overanalyzing things he enjoys.

Matthew “GetSelious” Paul – Gaming Video Content Creator: Matthew “Getselious” Paul is the head of The Outerhaven’s gaming video content creation team, where he’s constantly streaming recent and upcoming indie games on Twitch and The Outerhaven’s YouTube channel.

Faith Lane – Staff Contributor: Faith Lane is a self-published Christian author, journalist, editor, ghostwriter, and fangirl. She loves all things fandom and video games and loves to share her passion with her readers through her writing.

Kevin Kelly – Staff Contributor: A budding game journalist with history on a few blogs, a retro collector, and Virtua Fighter 5 head, Kevin is no slouch on a runback. Kevin is a deep geek on various traits and loves several art books, classic hip hop, and Japanese culture. He’s good with his Hori Fighting Commander pad, pen, or brush.
